I can't stop listening to this album.

I think this may be one of the discoveries of the year for me... As when I found it, the name didn't ring any bells, and I thought that a band with as bold a name as that ought to be good to some degree at least.

And I quite liked the cover picture... because I'm just that shallow!

However, once I got it back to HQ, and on the turntable, I was instantly blown away...

...Firstly, it was one of those rare occasions where you go: "I know that!", and that was just the first track.

To have two of these experiences in succession seems an unlikely occurrence, but the very next track after the opening Drowning In The Sea Of Love, Broken Land is also a recognisable eighties classic, every bit the equal of the first.

What's more amazing is that at least half the songs on this album prodded a dormant synapse in my thinking material in just the same way; And the other half - although not as recognisable, in that I didn't recall having heard them before, are as memorable, and as good.

How can this be?

How can a band that can produce such a cracking album as this be almost forgotten... and how can this album not be regarded as a power pop classic the equal of anything contemporary with it, and mentioned in conversation as often?

It is a mystery.

I wonder if they were just "late to the party" in terms of the kind of music here - coming from kind of the same place as Simple Minds and the like, with these huge, wide-screen pop epics, and maybe music just moved away from this at just about this time?

Whatever the case, this ought to be considered a classic by those who love the eighties pop.

It is essentially a distillation of every element of the eighties music that was good, but minus all the sad and embarrassing stuff that severely dates the more cheesy tunes of this time.

Add in the final element of this incredible sounding Alsdorf press (I knew some ebay sellers make a feature and selling point of Alsdorf, and I'm sure I've a few discs from there, but in this case, allied with this music, this is the first time I've really "got it")

An altogether brilliant album with not one duff tune that sounds brilliant on the disc.

Brilliant! :)

This could be one of those problematic discs (Like the CDs of the time)

... it's a real "European" disc, in that it's a German pressing (Alsdorf in dead wax), as indicated by the down-pointy triangle at the bottom of the labels and German text, but the lead cat# is for UK on both back cover and inner sleeve (poly-lined) ... and the "UK" cat#: EKT 45 is on the bottom of labels too.

This is what I love about this site.... every now and then you come across a song you haven't heard sine it was released, and you remember how much you loved it back then too.

Anyone else remember this classic?
