CHRISTMAS

Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella

This is a beautiful old 17th century French carol. I thought that the innocence of the alto recorder and the beauty of a full string section best portrayed the simplicity, and get the depth of this old tune.

MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER
CHRISTMAS

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Coventry Carol
This carol was originally from the mid 1400's, however, the melody as it is in this version, is derived from a later version in 1591.
I chose to set the harmonic structure and instrumental color as closely to the period as I could. In this case, the guitar probably would have been a lute, and the harpsichord, of course, is itself.
