Ah, that label (I've never known what to call it - "floating A's"?), seems to have been introduced in the USA at the beginning of 1979, and in Australia in September 1979 (the 45cat listing for Iggy Pop's "I'm Bored" initially suggested June 1979, but that has the wrong image as the primary, the black label should be first), and looking at the Discogs Australian entries for this LP, I would think September 1976 is the correct original release date, but for the pale blue with white logo version, not the floating A's version, so I will go and correct that! There may not have been an Australian black label version, as a subsequent compilation, MONKEEMANIA, charted in the last week of October 1979, shortly after the label design changed.
Thank you for your response PhilMH - it is always appreciated. I am wondering when the label as used on the linked Australian release (cat # L37208) came in. Mainly I am trying to discern if this could have been released in 1976 under cat no. AL 4089 - with the two label variations as listed on the other site or if the blue label was from 1976 and the other one later.
I don't "know" exactly, Jasper, but looking at the Aussie Arista 45's in 45cat, all the 1975 and 1976 releases were white labels with pale blue logos (i.e. the LP colours reversed), and appear to have switched to the black labels with pale blue logos at the beginning of 1977.
