@Lovinda,@Lee Wrecker,Thanks for your input,i think i've got the gist of what i was doing wrong now;) @The_Vinyl_Junkie. :) Indeed,so basically, add any Cat.No. variations after you have posted the entry, that way,the "/" is not "seen" by the search engine,it just sees the two Cat.No's,this way,any variations will appear in the same "Catalogue" field as they should, and both will be searchable.

When adding a cat #, like here, it really doesn't matter which one is added. When searching by cat # the "space" and "-" is ignored in the search, so if you entered "ALL 796" then it would display all cat #'s that have been entered as "ALL796", ALL-796" and "ALL 796".

When any cat #'s are entered with an alternate # using the "/" as a separator on the same line, for some reason it is only found if you enter your search in exactly the same way as it was entered.

I guarantee that nobody would even think of doing something like that for a search - including me.

I always add the cat. number from labels first (as the guide tells us to). After all data is entered and made public, I hit the Add Missing Info and add the cat. number from spine (or cover if I don't have album at hand). This way we avoid two cat. number variants on one line.
It's just fine with me to merge mine with gregs78s's entry. After all, he also got labels added. The most important thing to me is that the best quality images stays. We all want 45world to be a good place for record collectors (like me), and for viewing pleasures too! :-)

Don't worry Greg, I've done this too and can't remember where or when but I do know I've done a fair few entries this way. I did switch to the one cat# and add extras about a year ago but this problem will take a while to iron out. Particularly in CD land where nearly everything carries multiple cat#s.

@Graham7.As i say,i've always entered variations on the Cat.No. on the same line/at the same time of posting, now you're saying that's wrong, why on earth didn't someone tell me?,i would have stopped doing it!,and if it's just/mainly me that's been doing it,then i apologise, but i feel some clarification might help.
Take this one as an example for instance,ALL 796 is on the spine/back and ALL796 is on the labels,so if we add ALL 796 as the one Cat.No.,where/how would you prefer we add ALL796,later,after posting, via "add missing info"/"other cat#s" i presume, and not in the notes (i.e don't add alternative Cat.Nos when first creating the entry, add them later after you've posted it via "add missing info"/"other cat#s") correct?
(labels can't be added in the same way via "add missing info" can they?,i.e,they would still have to be included on the first post, from a submitter's point of view?,or are you saying we should all just add one label, and the Mods will add any additional ones?)

gregs78s, we've always entered just one cat# when adding items, like we only enter one Label. Additional ones are added later.
There should perhaps be notes to clarify this in the guides. I thought there were, but they don't seem to be there now.
(The note about only adding one label, that is there, is often ignored anyway;-)

(Another moderator will hopefully decide which entry to keep, it is reasonable that yours should stay.)

? (edited) @Lovinda If you had tapped in ALL 796 my entry should have come up,i can't understand why it didn't,but my adding ALL796 (without space) after the main Cat.No. shouldn't have made any difference to the search (i'm pretty sure it still should have shown up,other albums do),so i'm at a loss to explain on this one, however if you couldn't find it at the time, you did the right thing by adding it again,so it's just a duplication,no worries, what worries me though is Graham 7's implication that my original entry was incorrect?,i just added it as normal, with any variations on the way the Cat.No. has been written directly after the main Cat.No.,as we've done from the year dot,no one has ever told me not to do it this way,so have the rules changed?,if so.it would be nice to be told.Do you then also think that it's right that a duplicated entry should somehow take precedence over the original entry?,because i've always thought that the opposite has been the case ?(with the exception of improved scans).

Thanks for the info guys. Will keep that in mind next time. Normally I am pretty thorough when adding stuff. I also use wildcard (asterisk) in front or after parts of cat. number (in case of incorrect/alternate data) like, XX* or *XX to check the database. This normally works fine too. In a case like this, when cover has space and label no space in cat. number, search would have worked if we put cover's cat. number (wih space) in the field 'Other Cat#s'?

Do not rely on a cat# only search.
99% of the time it works, but I'd always check Artist and Label discographies before adding an item.
These entries will be merged.
I would suggest keeping Lovinda's new one ALL 796, as it was added correctly.

This is what happens when you put ALL 796 / ALL796 as a cat#.
Please only add one number, and submit variants as Missing Info.

(ps: ppint just said that while i was typling)

it got hiccupped when the other poster listed it, so it's in as "all796all796" - no way you could've predicted that!

(searching by title, and searching by artist, would have shown its presence, so long as these were correctly keyed-in, an no hiccupping or tablettythinglike "miscorrectthelastthingyoutypedafteryoulefttheword" bug^W feature intervened, so it's worth checking more than one way; but the cat# search should've found it, had it been in the database correctly.)

I added one of them recently. I checked first to see if it was already added, but my cat. number search for ALL 796 returned nothing. How come? I just searched again, and only the one I added comes up...

these seem to be prestige records recordings, and the album appears to've been licenced from the merkin tops label - 1964 lp cat# 1766 - of the same title.

seems to be a hiccuppy duplication of all796 (or the hiccups may've come first)
