Yes, ASF was a catalogue number prefix commonly used for albums on the CBS label in Southern Africa. KSF was the prefix used for those on the the EPIC label (sometimes pressed on CBS in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe however)
Definitely South African, guys. (Pty) in brackets is the South African form, not Australian. Gramophone Record Co (Pty.) Ltd. is (was?) a South African record company (CBS Records Australia Limited was the Aussie CBS company then), and Artone Press is a South African printer. Also, Australian CBS full-price album catalogue numbers were SBP 2XXXXX, but I haven't found an Australian number for this yet.
2. I also found a Bob Dylan album issue claiming to be South African issued in 1988, with a similar catalogue number, ASF 3218, which as ASF 2940 is from 1983, sounds feasible.
I would concur, go with Aus. for now, as most likely.
I tried to find New Zealand "Pty.", which may be similar to Australian company law, but have run out of time.
Problem: South Africa use Pty as well......so hold it for now.....sorry.
Yes,i thought i'd seen that (Pty) before,i spent a year in Aus,and so i must have seen it all over the place.thanks for that,Mods, shall we go with Australia then?.
Unsure as to origin,i don't think it's US,as that is Cat No FC 38947.Australian perhaps?.All these years, and i've only just noticed the two dots above the "o":o
