Notes

B2, composer is spelt "Fox" on the label but was actually spelt Foxx(2 'x's) It was, of course, Charles Foxx. Also B1, credit given to Paul AND Linda on this version, plus the sound quality is an improvement on the harsh, edgy quality of "Popcorn"/"Go Moog"

What was "Mouldy Old Dough" in 1972 would be out-of-date penicillin by now(ha-ha)! And Lieutenant Pigeon? He was demoted to Corporal(awwww!).

Mouldy old dough was a home recording that's why it's issued only in mono

RC, I'll explain it tis way: Perhaps EMI didn't think Lieutenant Pigeon had enough public interest(beyond novelty level) to warrant putting the "....Kathleen" LP out on Decca as a full-price release in 1974, so they opted to issue the album on Axis as a budget-price album instead. The singles of Mouldy Old Dough and I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen did very well on the charts, but it was the novelty value that carried them. But after heavy radio exposure, that novelty was wearing off and EMI thought they wouldn't recoup their outlay as a full-price LP wouldn't shift enough stock to cover costs. It was probably cheaper for EMI to stick the album on Axis and flog it at newsagents or stores where budget LPs are generally sold, "in the cheap racks"!

RC, if per chance you have "....Kathleen" on a 45rpm, look at the label and see if it has a publishing date, I found it in "The Book" - Top 40 Research Ed.#7(Steve Scanes & Jim Barnes - authors) showing debut at 31 on 4/7/1974 and peaking at #2(Decca Y-10431). So in this case, EMI issued a Decca release, new, as a budget LP rather than as a full-price Decca issue(EMI handled Decca in Australia since the days of 78rpm - for the benefit of readers outside Australia). But this does not always hold that an Axis LP is of the same vintage on release, as the content of the LP. For instance, an LP issued in 1975 could be full of songs from 1960 to 1965. Such is the nature of Axis and other budget labels from EMI or any other company.

Mouldy old dough the original from 1972 sound in poor quality if it was played from a tape

Here it is, folks! I cleaned up the covers as best I could(old album, you see). This one is DEFINATELY from 1974(and I'll bet the moderator is wiping the sweat from his brow and heaving a sigh of relief). Okay TopPopper, do you have a British equivalent to this one?
