mr_tmg: uk lp, reissued with new K-prefix systematic cat# 1971 when the distribution of the records, cassettes of all the companies & labels owned by the kinney/national car park/first bank of hackensack/etc. megamusiccorpse were progressively transferred to their own new wholly-owned warehousing & distribution centre and computer system, starting with warner bros. & atlantic.
all live back catalogue was renumbered, to fit into the computer system's database, and all subsequent releases, reissues and restocks bore these K-prefix systematic cat#s, else the computer stock control & ordering system could not cope. otoh once swallowed into the unified distribution system, all product could be ordered together in any sequence, rather than need to be sorted by label and sent to each label's previous distributor (e.g. polydor, pye records, emi, cbs...). otth, written/typed mistakes in the new systematic K-cat#s were instantly much easier to make, and far harder to spot. . .
the uk (and european?) arm of the megamusiccorpse was renamed kinney music group.
these systematic K-cat#s were retained when the group was later renamed the wea record group, for warner/elektra/atlantic, and later still the warner music group.
Pet's website mentions another release of this:
Warner/Kinney K 56003
Anyone got more details? Kinney seemingly took over Warner Music, so I guess it must be a re-issue.
