Also, I noticed, while I don't speak French (haven't tried since college, and college French is the reason I never got a degree) I believe on track A6 the artist and title fields are reversed (maybe a bit much Champagne?)
I think that this 10" was produced in France without MGM's logistic help; they didn't get the original tapes (which would have allowed editing). So they decided to do the whole thing anew in a studio; Louis Jourdan was busy in Hollywood, not very well known in his own country, and Sacha Distel was a very big recording star at that time.
I suspected as such but it's the first time I'd actually seen it. I was wondering about linking them when I enter the US soundtrack, but instead I will just put a hotlink in the comments.
It's a bit odd, though, that they dubbed Frenchman Louis Jourdan's voice as well, unless there was some contractual complication (as happened with Columbia/CBS' soundtrack album for PORGY & BESS, where Sammy Davis Jr.'s performances were replaced by Cab Calloway).
That's the French-dubbed version, yes. The same applies to other big time musicals such as "The Sound of Music" or "My Fair Lady".
A Spanish-dubbed version of "Gigi" was also available on an U.S. LP (MGM #E3787).
I'm a bit confused. Was there two versions of the film? I have the original soundtrack on MGM records for the US release, and other than Maurice Chevalier, the cast is different:
Leslie Caron as GiGi
Louis Jourdan as Gaston
Hermoine Gingold as Grandmama
