I'm pretty sure Carl Gottlieb was never on McHALE'S NAVY, certainly not as a full cast member (perhaps furrball was thinking of Carl Ballantine?). At the time of this album he was a member of the comedy improv troupe The Committee and a writer for THE SMOTHERS BROTHERS COMEDY HOUR; he is also the "de Boeuf" credited with co-writing the album's title track with Zal and photographer I.C. Rapaport (whose name is misspelled on the label). (Gottlieb would go on to write the screenplay for JAWS and co-author David Crosby's two memoirs, among many other credits.)

Also of note: the other "Yester" in the writing credits for "Raven In A Cage" and "Hip Toad" is the late, great Judy Henske, then married to co-producer Jerry Yester; the two Yesters would release their cult album FAREWELL ALDEBARAN a year later, with some help from Yanovsky.

And yes, the Carl Gottlieb who wrote the liner notes was the same Carl Gottlieb who was a cast member of the 60's TV series, "McHale's Navy"!!!

Found the month in the 3rd page of the June 22nd, 1968 issue of Billboard magazine.
It says this album (along with seven others on the Buddah label) were introduced on the morning of Saturday, June 8th, 1968 at Buddah records first convention in New York.

There's a difference of artist's name and title of record between cover and label.
