At the bottom of the front cover the catalogue number is incorrectly given as BB453. Elsewhere it is correctly printed as BF453.

This is a discussion on Black cultural awareness between Langston Hughes and Margaret Danner interspersed with readings of poems by both Hughes, who hailed from Harlem N.Y.C. and Danner originally from Chicago.

Shortly after Hughes signed a contract with Motown in late October 1963, the album was recorded in a studio in New York City. However, following a cooling off on the project in the period between its conception and fruition by Motown Senior Management, it was not released until late 1970, three years after Hughes' death. It formed one of the company's inaugural releases on its Black Forum imprint.

The liner notes include the following "mission statement" in such small print as to be almost illegible:

"Black Forum is a medium for the presentation of ideas and voices of the worldwide struggle of Black people to create a new era. Black Forum also serves to provide authentic materials for use in schools and colleges and for the home study of Black history and culture. Black Forum is a permanent record of the sound of struggle and the sound of the new era."

Black Forum was active between 1970 and 1973.
