| | ah I see. This means that CBS introduced new pressing machines in 1969 to cope with the boom in vinyl demand but sadly lost their characteristic rough texture on label which must have been a hallmark of the Oriole machines.
The Billboard news item states that 45 presses are in operation indicating the potential output of the place. No wonder it was used for contract pressings. I have seenJHE UK Track records on this press. |

| | The Aylesbury factory was started already in 1964 by Oriole, just prior to the CBS takeover, and its newness may even have been a factor in CBS's wanting it. The move from the old Aston Clinton location, which had been used by Oriole since the 78 era, was completed by CBS in the summer of 1965. Billboard, 14 August 1965, p. 22. |

| | I don't know the area at all but I assumed that Aylesbury factory was different location to Aston Clinton, but of course it could be the same place. I do know that Columbia purchased Oriole Records because they had their own Aston Clinton pressing plant in order to set up CBS in UK and Europe. |

| | Deep,
same location, just looked up that Aston Clinton seems to belong to Aylesbury. For me that look, besides CBS of course, is "Virgin", though they nearly always had etched deadwax#s, CBS stamped. |

| | The disc under the label looks typical of CBS when they pressed at their newer facility in Aylesbury from 1969 onward. |

| | For LPs, we have to use a little common sense and flexibility (more so than for 45Cat, where the label almost always takes precedence). I think generally the SLEEVE is the most appropriate title for an LP as that is a very deliberate design, whereas the labels can change on the whim of the printer, print operator, designer etc etc.
Really though, each case has to be taken on its own merits, and we can of course always thrash it out amongst ourselves - we usually get there in the end! |
