PhilMH 30th Mar 2016		These things are a pain! Fantasy's intention seems to have been that Original Blues Classics and Original Jazz classics were the primary labels on these reissues; they were certainly promoted that way, particularly in their print and online catalogues. The execution of that intention, however, was very cack-handed, not just within the US and across different formats, but also by their overseas licensees too! The first US vinyl issues came with Japanese-style paper obi's, later replaced with large stickers on the shrinkwrap; both of those had a serious disadvantage in that they were usually discarded, meaning that the only visible evidence that releases were part of these series were the OBC- and OJC- catalogue numbers (the previous catalogue numbers shown in brackets should be ignored for these - they were only a reference to the original LP releases), and so the label names are frequently entered as those on the repro labels shown. The US CD's made the intention clearer, usually with a large OBC or OJC on the front covers, the back inserts, and common label designs, coupled with a smaller logo for the original label, but they showed the original label names rather than Prestige, etc. on the spines (I imagine the cassette issues were probably similarly generic, but I haven't looked). Things got even murkier outside the US, like with the Australian issue of "Brownie's Blues" that Lee mentioned in his PM. No obi or shrinkwrap on Aussie releases in the series, but at least they put the OBC logo prominently on the vintage Prestige label design. However, I have an even more confusing Australian CD of a King Curtis album that shows the original Tru-Sound label logo on the front cover, Prestige and Festival logos on the back insert, and more-or-less equal-sized Prestige and OBC logos (but not Tru-Sound) on the plain silver disc! Making order out of this chaos is a bit tricky, particularly as searches on the second label field here don't seem to work, and the series field included under "Add Missing Info" doesn't get displayed. However, I'm leaning towards the following: (1) If there is an Original Blues Classics or Original Jazz Classics logo anywhere on the release, make that the primary label (as intended by Fantasy); (2) Enter only one catalogue number - for US releases, this will be the OBC or OJC number; for overseas releases, whichever one is the releasing company's number (for Festival in Australia, this will be the L, C or D number; for Universal International, a long string of digits); (3) IGNORE any other catalogue number shown in brackets - for US issues, that will be a reference to the original issue; for overseas (e.g. Festival) it may be a reference to either the original issue, or to the US OBC/OJC reissue. (4) Use the "Add Tag" function below to separately add all current and historic label and series names, and current distributor (I have already created a tag elsewhere for "Festival (Australia/New Zealand)"). I will add tags to this one and the ones that Lee mentioned so that you can see how this looks. (5) I'm open to any other ideas! EDIT: "Brownie's Blues", not Sonny's!

scrough 29th Mar 2016		Its difficult folks - the label says 'Prestige-Bluesville' even if it was re-released by a different company with a facsimilie label but different catalogue number. Original Blues Classics seems to have only one record - Alberta Hunter and that was originally on the Riverside label. So does that have a Riverside facsimilie label? At the moment we (mods) can't tell. We also have a Original Blues Classics - Prestige Bluesville label with only one record. So Lee, where are your 4 or 5 albums from this series listed? This all seems to be a mess, and we need to come up with a solution for the whole thing, rather than just patch this one record.I've PM'ed you both.



Lee Wrecker 27th Mar 2016		I agree PhilMH the label here should be "Original Blues Classics" and I have listed all my other albums (at least 4-5) from this series that way. So the label here should be changed from Prestige Bluesville to Original Blues Classics so that this album would appear in lists with others in the series. A correction has been sent but if anyone sees this comment, well not anyone a MOD, feel free to alter the label details. Cheers, Lee and thanks to Phil for picking up on this error.



PhilMH 17th Mar 2015		Regardless of the reproduction labels used on the records, the "label" according to Fantasy's catalogues was Original Blues Classics, and the primary catalogue number is OBC-501 (that's the most prominent number on the labels and the back cover). Just added that catalogue number, and Original Blues Classics as series, but that latter detail isn't showing up.
