| | Steaming pile of turd or not, it's a bit odd that this seems to have been released in the US by both Buena Vista and RCA at the same time, and I can't find any explanation for it, the closest reference in Billboard being that RCA Limited in Canada had obtained the distribution rights to Buena Vista. It may or may not be coincidental that the soundtrack for Ms. Andrews' next cinematic effort, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, was also released by RCA; she had three EPs released by them in 1957, but subsequent 45s were on other labels, so I don't know whether she signed a new deal with RCA, or the film studio just shopped the TSOM soundtrack around and RCA took the bait. (THE SOUND OF MUSIC has recently been re-released in a deluxe edition, not by RCA but by Concord Music Group, who acquired the publishing interests of Rodgers & Hart and Rodgers & Hammerstein a few years ago, so whether the soundtrack recording was part of that acquisition, or Concord picked it up later because RCA's rights had expired, I don't know). |
