 unless this album was recorded from the seven player-piano rolls cut by the composer - six on connorized and "connorized", inter alia to remove rhythmic irregularities - in 1916, it is not possible that the tracks can be attributed to scott joplin as the performing artist. the second piano roll of the composer playing his "maple leaf rag", unirecord june 1916, is probably the fairest representation of his playing at the time, but he was by then already exhibiting brain damage and loss of muscular control due to the tertiary syphilis that would soon kill him, and so this, too, is unlikely to give an accurate account of his music.
