Bill Fick 10th Jun 2015		This wasn't the first time a jam session like this occurred at Sun. It's just that this was the first time it was fairly well-documented, mainly because 3 of the 4 guys had major hit records at the time. When Elvis was still with Sun, Johnny Cash was in the studio when he cut "Baby, Let's Play House" & Carl Perkins was in the control room when he cut "When It Rains, It Really Pours" (as evidenced by the original session tapes). You'll have to remember that Sun was a rather informal place back then, people drifted in & out of the studio all the time. That's why you'll find people like Roy Orbison & Charlie Feathers (just to name 2) guesting on other peoples' records (uncredited)... And Billy Lee Riley's Little Green Men basically became Sun's in-house band from 1957-59 for those artists that didn't have their own band...
Bill Fick 6th Aug 2014		Not actually "complete", but about 95% of what is currently known to exist of the session is here. Fairly recently, this was re-issued on CD with a few extra minutes added. Rumor has it that one more reel of tape was used (in addition to what is presented here), but has not yet been found. Supposedly, this "lost" reel contains all 4 members of the "quartet", including Johnny Cash, but this will remain unsubstantiated until found. Jack Clement has stated that at least 3 reels of tape were used, but only 2 have been found as of this writing. Both Johnny Cash and the original newspaper article in the Memphis Press-Scimitar have named songs that were sung that day that have yet to be found... Prior to becoming a huge financial success, Sam Phillips tended to try & save money by erasing & re-using tape from sessions that he was not going to master any records from, so it's a distinct possibility that the "lost" songs may be lost forever, much like the majority of the out-takes from Presley's Sun sessions...
