Notes

Recording of The Plastic Ono Band live in the September 1969 Toronto Rock 'n' Roll festival. The line-up consisted of John and Yoko, Eric Clapton on guitar, Klaus Voormann on bass, and Alan White (later with the band Yes) on drums. The album initially came with a calender. Later issues have track A3's spelling changed to Dizzy Miss Lizzy.

Well, I've been firmly told in Discogs that, notwithstanding the (P) 1970 on the labels, the US & UK release date of this album was Friday, 12th December 1969, because the album release was moved up to capture the Christmas market, and one user says that he bought his copy "in early December". Further research is needed for the other countries, though!

This is getting complicated - three of the UK music weeklies that I've just looked at (Record Mirror, Melody Maker, and New Musical Express) all have the same ad for this album, saying "Out Now", in their issues dated 13th December 1969 (a Saturday), with the NME also having a news item saying that the album was "out today (Friday)". So where does the (P) 1970 for some of the tracks come from? Was the album partly remixed, or edited, after initial release? It's a long time since I've heard this album, so did John swear somewhere, prompting EMI UK to bring out the scissors?

Several of the entries in Discogs, from different countries, replicated the December 1969 release date (which I think might have been the original US date), even though the labels show (P) 1970 - I have now corrected those, and queried the date on an Australian pressing which doesn't show the years. As this also shows the (P) 1970, then the release date couldn't have been 1969. And I see a few suspect 1969 issues linked below!

Have a French stereo copy on Apple with a catalogue number 2C 064 – 90.877 (CORE 2001) from 1976. Has no calendar.

Yeah it was the first record with one side on that you could play at either 16, 33, 45 and 78 rpm - and it still sounded the same!

lol! Well put!
