ReviewTattoo You is a grab bag of odds and sods from the Stones mid to late 70's recording output that for one reason or another didn't make it on to an album. Given that the songs on Tattoo You all have their own back story in the Stones history it is a remarkably cohesive album with consistently high quality songs throughout. The track listing follows a formula that Rod Stewart often used in the mid to late 70's and album is split in two thematically with the A side being rockers and the B side containing ballads. The singles from the album also reflect this pattern and the opening track "Start Me Up" a classic Stones rocker was released first and then followed up by the beautiful ballad and album closer "Waiting On A Friend". Sandwiched in between are nine other very high quality Stones originals with my favourites being "Slave" and "Neighbours". Start to finish this is one of the Stones most consistently good albums.
