Notes

Phil Bodner was a studio musician and a multi-instrumentalist who played the clarinet, oboe, saxophone, English horn and flute. In the 1950’s, Mr. Bodner had performed several jazz sessions with Benny Goodman, Miles Davis and Gilbert Evans. Around 1965, Mr. Bodner had founded the Brass Ring, which was a New York City-based group that was one of a number of “Now Sound” bands. The Now Sound groups, such as the Tijuana Brass, the Baja Marimba Band and the Brass Buttons, were popular music groups that played strumental music.

Even though this was the fifth disc of 33.33 rpm of the Brass Ring, this was the final LP disc of this group that was both monaurally and stereophonically issued. Furthermore, this was the first of three Dunhill discs of 33.33 rpm of which the logo “Stereo 68; The Sound of Tomorrow” was indicated by means of the front jacket of these discs. The other two Dunhill discs of 33.33 rpm that had this stereo 68 indication were the Now Sound of Mickie Finn (Dunhill DS-50024) and Ernie Freeman, the Hit-Maker (Dunhill DS-50026).

Though Dunhill DS-50025, which was the stereophonic catalog # of the Farewell to the First Golden Era disc of the Mamas and the Papas, was issued between the Now Sound of Mickie Finn and the Ernie Freeman, the Hit-Maker discs, this Mamas and Papas disc was not indicated stereo 68, the sound of tomorrow due to the fact that this disc was totally compiled of vocal tunes, whereas the other three discs of 33.33 rpm were completely made of songs strumental.
