Magic Marmalade 3rd Jun 2018		Review This is not the most sophisticated sounding of recordings... ...Sounding more like a rudimentary demo collection, with the constant womp womp womp-ing bass and rhythm section throughout a little muddy, but the lead vocals are clear, as are the female backing vocals... I think it depends what your ear is tuned to really, whether this will disappoint or enthuse you,a s the overall effect of the sound is one of - if it is not patronising to say - authenticity, and of early sounding, basics, D.I.Y reggae. (If you are after modern sounding bells and whistles HD quality, then you will be disappointed) The collection on this disc is of what appears to be - Having moseyed over at the singles on 45cat - a very small slice of this prolific artist's work from mid to late sixties, primarily on the Jamaican Beverley's label... (and Pyramid label in UK. - some of those here do not seem to have turned up yet on 45cat) I don't know if the two names given on sleeve and label here are just two different names for the same track, or whether they are in fact two entirely different songs, and the one has been dropped in favour of the other for this release (?) ....but it's a very pleasing old school reggae, which can even make someone like me enjoy it (I don't like reggae...etc. (as a general rule)). 4 people found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?
