 There were also band called Steerpike and Gormenghast around in late 60s and early 70s

 Not true, I'm afraid. It appeared as Fuchsia in Gormenghast. In the case of Titus Groan - the record (which was also the title of a Mervyn Peake novel), I assume that the origin was the same but I don't think the error was Peake's.

 In the case of the Strawbs, the track was named after a character in Gormenghast, so Mervyn Peake got it wrong!

 I wonder why it's so hard to spell Fuchsia? It was named after a man called Fuchs.
