Notes

Milton (Shorty Rogers) Rajonsky is a renowned jazz musician who had combined avant-garde music with jazz compositions, and had recorded an Atlantic LP from which he had made jazz enjoyable to the “inhabitants” of Mars. For this MGM disc, Mr. Rogers had collaborated with the cinematographic producer of the 1959 film of Tarzan, the Ape Man by combining the wild Afro-Cuban music with modern jazz.

Though this Tarzan film was not revered to the level that the original 1932 Tarzan, the Ape Man was, Mr. Rogers had composed all the tunes of this disc in a novelty-like story thru which the primitive inhabitants had a wonderful exposure to a newly formed jungle jazz music that contained wild animal sounds. Furthermore, Mr. Rogers had composed “Tarzanic Suite” as an extended arrangement of the main theme of this motion picture and various pieces of music that were written for this film, so that the music and jungle effects could be entirely played by means of the b side of this MGM disc.

Despite the marvelous creativity of this jungle jazz style by Mr. Rogers, this disc did not sell well, but this disc of 33.33 rpm has become a highly-sought after collectible for many jazz-novelty listeners worldwide and jungle music lovers, primarily of those from African nations.
