Notes

Charles Shavers was a swing era jazz trumpeter who initially played the piano and the banjo before he changed to play the trumpet. Accordingly, Mr. Shavers had played with the trumpet while he was a member of the of the Campus Club Orchestra that was conducted by Frank Fairfax.

While Mr. Shavers was still an adolescent, he had joined the John Kirby band a trumpet soloist and arranger. Due to the fact that this was a commercial band, one had to have at least 18 years of age, so Mr. Shavers had indicated that his birth date was three years more than his actual age in order to avoid the child labor laws. Nevertheless, his arrangements and solos had helped make the John Kirby band one of the most prosperous bands of the 1930s era.

During the 1940s and 1950s, Mr. Shavers had performed in the CBS staff orchestra, played with the Metronome All-Stars and made numerous recordings with Billie Holliday. Also, Mr. Shavers had worked with Benny Goodman had toured Europe with the Jazz at the Philharmonic series.

Mr. Shaver had composed the tune "Undecided" which was recorded by numerous artists, such as John Kirby, Chick Webb and the Dandridge Sisters, but the Ames Brothers had the most
prosperous recording which was in the hit parade of the Billboard magazine for twenty weeks in 1951.

Despite the prosperity of Mr. Shavers, this MGM disc was a failed seller, but this disc eventually became a sought-after disc worldwide for swing-jazz music listeners.
