Notes When this MGM disc was first issued, the Sound of Music had recently debuted on Broadway. Largely by means of the Mitch Miller television program, the Sound of Music became such an enormous success that this Broadway production was released by means of a motion picture in 1965. During the rock era of the late 1950s and early 1960s, Mr. Goodman had attempted to make an album of instrumental renditions of the tunes that were sung in the Sound of Music. However, this disc was not a good seller due to the fact that many big band music listeners had gradually decreased whereas the majority of the baby-boom population had preferred Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Danny and the Juniors and other great rock and roll bands. Despite the sales failure of this MGM disc, Mr. Goodman still remained a big band favorite for a few more decades until he passed away. Images
