Notes

In 1876, a specialized armed forces institution named the United States Coast Guard Academy had begun to train their cadets to become high ranking officers after they graduate from this academy. These cadets spend nine months of each year in a classroom where they learn the fundamentals that will help them become prosperous seamen. Additionally, these cadets spend the summers doing practical rigorous training, such as life saving, combat techniques to defeat their enemies and many other techniques by means of the Eagle, which is the ship that this academy owns.

Despite the intense training that these cadets must endure, many find the time to get together to sing various armed forces tunes. Of 150 cadets, only a small group of cadets who have regularly participated in musical activities at this academy are selected to perform in this band. The 32 voices that comprise these academy singers are two chapel choirs, a glee club and a 16 voice ensemble.

The arrangements of the sea tunes of this MGM disc were done by Donald Janse, the director of cadet musical activities at this academy. Orchestral arrangements were provided by John Heffernan who is accompanied by the Richard Mundell Orchestra.
