Hi Lee, you should be able to get the linked 2017 180g release from JBHiFi (if I had checked their site first yesterday, I wouldn't have paid $5 more for it at an independent store!).
Linked to USA original (primary) release and other copies on the site. Can't help with your query Phil. I'm not quite old enough to go back that far and didn't get into Sly until the late seventies when all their records had disappeared from the shops. If it wasn't for the 1981 "best of" I would still have none but I'm happy with that one. This and "Life" are my favourite Sly And The Family Stone albums that I have on CD but as you know I would much prefer a vinyl copy. I'll just have to wait for a re-release or keep my eyes open in the second hand market but this one doesn't pop up very often at all.
And here's the Aussie release. Apologies for the price sticker on the front cover, but the bloody thing won't come off! I had thought this might have been an early 1970 release, because for some unexplained reason - maybe a fellow Aussie can tell me? - this made the Australian LP chart in early March 1970, peaking at #9, but was only on the chart for two weeks! The band don't seem to have had any Aussie hit singles around then, and it's several months before the Woodstock movie featuring the band was released. Comparison of the matrix numbers to Aussie Epic and CBS singles suggests a release around May 1969.
Incidentally, I believe that US Epic had ditched the STEREORAMA slogan on the label earlier in the 60's, but Australia kept it until at least 1973; I used to have Donovan's COSMIC WHEELS album with this label, even though the cover had the newer Epic logo.
