Notes According to the notes on the back of the sleeve the background to these songs is as follows: In the highlands of Scotland there’s a wood-lined, tin-roofed shack known as Rude Studio. Here Denny Laine and Paul McCartney got together to record some Buddy Holly songs… On the four-track recorder Paul laid down the basic tracks, overdubbing each instrument himself. Denny and Linda added a few licks and all three joined in on the vocals… Denny singing lead and Paul and Linda harmonising. Keeping it simple they tried to recapture the spirit of the original recordings by recalling, in moments of madness, their own sweet Holly Days. Holly Days was produced by Paul McCartney. Photographs by Linda McCartney. So why an album of Holly covers? Well this side project from Wings may well have been a McCartney reward to Laine for standing by McCartney after Denny Seiwell and Henry McCullough left Wings at the end of rehearsals for Band On The Run. But McCartney’s publishing company had also acquired rights to the Buddy Holly songbook in 1975 before recording the album (during the summer of 1976), which gave McCartney some financial interest in its release, and therefore may well have been a prime reason for this collection of Buddy Holly covers. This is a lo-fi, low-key collection of songs bringing back memories of McCartney. It is in all but name a Paul McCartney project, with Denny Laine vocals. Two of the tracks are instrumentals with perhaps only McCartney playing. Some consider this a “lost” Wings album. The album was released on CD on 17 January 2002 on the Magic label (France) "avec l'aimable autorisation de EMI Music France", remastered in high definition 24 bit. Images Comments and Reviews
