ppint. ● 10th Oct 2019		"dance with me henry" is also known as "roll with me henry" and "the wallflower"; it is an "answer record" to "work with me annie" by hank ballard and the midnighters, which was a #1 merkin r&b/race charts hit°. etta james either recorded two versions of this for single release on modern, or had her single "roll with me, henry" reissued under the title, "the wallflower" (or vice-versa), as by "etta james and "the peaches""; it/the first was deemed too sexually explicit for play by merkin radio; i can see no indication of which version is included on this lp as "dance with me henry". it was successfully covered for the white market° under the title, "dance with me, henry", by georgia gibbs; but far and away the best cover version is that by minnie bannister and henry crun. ° - the merkin record business remained pretty strictly subject to a colo(u)r bar through this period and well (or, rather "ill") beyond
