I've just added cassette version TC-FA 41 3094 4. I guess it's also 1984, but have left undated for now (cover has a barcode).

Eil has one on ebay with a blue barcode box, which they say is a 1990 issue. I've also seen this stated elsewhere on another copy.

It hadn't occured to me that Fame inner sleeves woud be dated!

I'll get my Undertones, Steppenwolf, and Floyd albums out to have a look, see if they have the original inners.. and if dated, I'll plonk the dates on the relevant pages for the time being. (Floyd one would be very useful as far as the yellow labels go!)

" I still have the original inner which has the number '284' on the bottom right".

Mine's 1084.

 Good Man! (Assumption)

Actually, this is just the kind of info that will contribute to pulling the rope tight around the dates for these issues.

All data will be duly noted, collated, analysed, applied then dated!

(in fact, I've only been able to find images of the plain labels so far... so your checked labels immediately push the initial issue date back a little!)

((As well as confirming a repress/ continued press of this on Fame past it's original issue... I suspect some titles may not have been))

Added front and rear sleeve images as well as alternative labels with the checkerboard red lines. I still have the original inner which has the number '284' on the bottom right, which could be Feb 84 for this version (just to confuse things even more)

Well, that site just appears to be an online store, and not any official register of barcodes (if there is such a thing). This plainly cannot be a 1990 release if it was already listed in two separate catalogues in 1987 and 1988. I have just checked the Discogs entry, and someone has made it 1985 based on a 1/85 date on the inner sleeve - I don't know if that's particularly reliable, that's most likely just the date that particular copy was pressed. The images attached also don't appear to show a date code on the cover, unfortunately. (That entry also has EMI listed as a label - when will those people learn that EMI is only the label when there is no other label logo present, grrrr!). I'm inclined to make this April 1984, based on the Music Master entry.

Another source: The Pop Cat (Gramophone Popular Catalogue) for March 1987; doesn't specify the release date, but does show this Fame LP and cassette, and the original full-price CD issue (CDP 7 46065-2), so definitely not 1988 for this.

1988 Music Master says April '84 for the LP and cassette, and April '88 for the CD. But check the bottom right-hand corner of the back cover, because UK EMI releases typically had a 4-digit date code, e.g. 8404, probably preceded and followed by some letters. I have an Ike & Tina Turner compilation (Nice & Rough) which has "SP 8402 GL", so that's February 1984 and printed by Garrod & Lofthouse, I don't know what the SP means. Another I & TT compilation (Tough Enough) is SP8409JU (September 84, James Upton).

According to the Barcode Ruined the 45 label Forum. They are saying 79 For Unofficial Barcodes on LP's and 83 for 45's. So Retailers would Put Barcode Stickers on the Sleeves Up to 87 then the Barcodes were Printed On The Sleeves to the Annoyance of the Collector. Do Anyone Who work in a Record Shop through that Period Remember having to Put Barcode Stickers on Everything. H.

Fame (well EMI) always put the original release dates on... total pain for us!

Good spot on the barcode. We'll go with 88. We can always change it of course if any other evidence comes up.

I Have Checked the Record and Sleeve. And there Is no Other date but 1978. But It Can't Be, so 88 I'll go with that. I Have the Original Version of this as well. The Only Difference apart from the Label and Cat# Is this has a Barcode They started around 88. H.

Normally I would say to take that with a pinch of salt, but the editing notes do indicate that they sourced that date from a reputable Kate Bush fan site.

On that basis I'd be happy to go with '88.

Anyone object?

I've taken the date out as this would be an 80s reissue via Fame, who unfortunately didn't plan ahead for 45Worlds (damn them) and made it very difficult to ascertain a re-release date!
