Graham7 2nd Jul 2015
| | Have rearranged images.
My label scans were done on my previous scanner, if I can find the disc (didn't have a cover I think) will re-scan for comparison.
I've linked by country the international Fame label examples we have listed so far (Ireland/Germany/Europe).
And added the linked releases for this. |

| | Actually, that's something that will have to be addressed, and cleared up, because while the White labels with red grid are definitely white... the vanilla coloured/light brown of the earlier ones are very difficult to get cinsistent scans of, tone wise... which could be misleading... I think there's a couple fo scanned labels on site which are repeats of others for the same entry, but taken as different colours due to scanning differences, but which may be the same label in reality (A Collection of Beatles Oldies).
A couple of times, when looking at ebay images, one side of the same record appears light yellow, but the other side seems light brown-tan.
It may be they actually are very slightly different though, but it must be determined too, if this is the case, whether these are just printing quality differences (got the same colour from a different manufacturer, which is a shade or two off, or if there is a definite conscious change of colour... that is, a definite light brown, and a definite light vanilla, which are distinct from each other
(Even this could prove useful, if a change of label printers or colour providers signals a dateable point in the chronology.
The ones you uploaded for the Irish press are deeper vanilla, for sure, but still a vanilla, and clearly printed by a different source, but apparently the intention is still to approximate the UK (nd elsewhere) colours I'd say. But look at Pink Floyd: Dance Songs... now that is undeniably "YEEEEEELLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOW !!!" (of the slap you in the face with a wet fish -starkness variety - probably explains why they didn't last long, whenever they were printed, as your first look at them makes you think: "Dear God, that's awful!"). |

| | the yellow labels appear to be the earlier ones, on the early 80's dated releases
take a look at this I've just found by the way (just to make the fame issue a bit more complicated!) |

Magic Marmalade 2nd Jul 2015
| | I think so, but don't know for sure the sequence of the other two yet, or if there's a yellow label grid label in there somewhere, or if the light brown/white plain, was followed by a dark brown, or preceded by it.
(this label is giving my a twitch!) |

| | Should the captions for them also be changed to 1st 2nd and 3rd label styles or something like that aswell |

Magic Marmalade 2nd Jul 2015
| | I think Graham7s labels ought to be the lead labels here, followed by the white grid, then plain (light brown/white(?)). |

| | PhilMH sorry for such a late reply but no there definately isn't a date code on the sleeve. the back cover is exactly the same as the original emi pressing with just the catalogue number changed and the fame logo at the bottom. The inner sleeve is no help either. I think the Nov '85 sounds the best bet for this |

|
An6y66 24th Mar 2014
| | I'll have to check the sleeve when I get home but I don't think there's any numbers. It's just notes on the sleeve designer and producer I think. |

PhilMH ● 24th Mar 2014
| | 1988 Music Master says November 1985 for the LP and cassette, and October 1987 for the CD. Is there any date code in the bottom right-hand corner of the back cover? The scan here is slightly skewed, and some detail in that area is missing. |

An6y66 17th Jan 2014
| | well '85 being mentioned in the comments will have to do if/when an offical release schedule for fame is ever found! |
|

|
Billy Two 16th Jan 2014
| | Though '85 is most likely it'd be best to leave it until we're certain of a date, rather than risk future accusations of making stuff up ! |

| | sounds prossible, marillion did have everything issue at least twice in 7", 12", 7" Picture discs 12" picture discs and CD singles. So another issue of real to real had a great possibility of selling.
So shall we make the date '85 then? |

| | I can only guess that due to the probably unexpected size of success of Misplaced Childhood, EMI saw a chance to cash in on this album by quickly reissuing it in a slightly cheaper package which would draw in the many new fans the band had made in '85 as well as double selling to the rabid collector element of their fanbase. Possibly. |

An6y66 16th Jan 2014
| | okay I can't find anything on their date of release.
And no it just has a fame/MFP company bag instead of the original custom inner sleeve |
|

|
Billy Two 16th Jan 2014
| | No, the Fame label was around from the early 80's onwards but was strictly a reissue label. This album was reissued a surprisingly short time after the original...as far as I can tell under a year, but I couldn't say for certain. Typically for a budget reissue label it didn't included a printed inner sleeve. |

An6y66 16th Jan 2014
| | That means we can date the EMI logo fame label to 1992 then? was this the first label or a later label? |

| | Townhouse is (was ?) a mastering and cutting studio : see here... |

|
An6y66 16th Jan 2014
| | The version with the EMI box label has TOWNHOUSE stamped into the run-out; anyone know if this means anything important? |

An6y66 22nd Nov 2013
| | added variant images.
I know Fame are hard to date but anyone got any ideas when the label design changed? |
