Notes Laura (Nyro) Nigro got into the music business by means of record company executives Artie Mogull and Paul Barry. Shortly after she sold her self-penned tune And When I Die to Peter, Paul and Mary for $5000, she made her first professional appearance at the Hungry i caffe in San Francisco. Consequently, Mr. Mogull negotiated Ms. Nigro a recording contract, and she recorded the tunes of More Than A New Discovery, which was first issued by means of Verve Folkways in January 1967. Even though this disc of 33.33 rpm did not sell well, many tunes, that is And When I Die, Stoney End, Wedding Bell Blues and Blowin' Away eventually became successful tunes by artists, such as Blood, Sweat and Tears, Barbara Streisand and the Fifth Dimension. This is the only disc of 33.33 rpm of Laura (Nyro) Nigro that was both monaurally and stereofonically issued in the United States and other nations. In the fall of 1969, this disc was reissued Laura Nyro by means of the Verve Forecast label, and was rereleased in early 1973 by means of the Columbia label. Despite the fact that Ms. Nyro had a successful recording career and had composed songs that made unknown artists gain international fame, she died the 8 April 1997 of ovarian cancer at the age of 49 years in Danbury, Connecticut.
