How does the title track sound, compared to the single mix (GT 42)? I'd never thought the single to be lacking, but now you mention it the other Brothers are virtually mixed out.

 Review
The Scott Walker Show...

This is a pretty bland album of overly long, disparate songs, which, by this time reflect the divergence of interests among the Walkers - standard Walker melodrama amped up to the max by Scott, as per his solo / individual style, interspersed with very flat reggae-lite.

Butt the key thing to understand with this is the rather telling credit: "Produced by Scott Walker"...

Which makes this issue best avoided in favour of later remixed or re-mastered versions of the songs here, as Scott Walker is essentially singing to, and for himself, in spite of the lavish strings, the cast of brilliant musicians at his disposal, they are all mixed so low compared to his voice (and admittedly, the other Walkers) that you can barely hear their contributions.

A more recent compilation of Walker Brothers songs I have on CD has a version of No Regrets where this has been remedied, and so sounds instantly ten times better than the original found here, as the instrumentation lifts the song there, rather than sounding like it's in the next room.

...If only he'd done this with the whole album for this release, it would have been twice as good at a stroke. But what can you say except that nobody loves the sound of their own voice, and indulges in it's romanticism more than Scott Walker himself.

For this album, get a later remaster / remix, and leave this one be.
