leonard 23rd Apr 2024		Added different first press labels (with ℗ 1969 and horizontal Made in England). Also added a scan of front sleeve with sticker that states "British Free" (to avoid confusion with already existing Dutch group The Free). The ℗ 1969 is given on the other site as the first pressing. Our Island buffs may know....



Burton LeB SUBS 24th May 2022		A Melody Maker ad (now uploaded) in issue dated 1 March 1969 gives release date as 7 March.



Labalius 15th Jan 2022		According to the band's official website the release date was 14 March 1969.



johnvdk 26th Jun 2021		According to 'Heavy Load' biography of Free by David Clayton and Todd Smth, 'The Hunter' was recorded as a last-minute addition in December 1968. The album had been provisionally scheduled for November release, but was delayed until March 1969. Is it significant that none of the sleeve or label scans above show a date anywhere? My copy of the CD (a 2016 UMC reissue, sadly without bonus tracks) gives 1968 on the back.
