ppint. 8th Oct 2017		the independent chrysalis label (still distributed, and pressed, via island's good offices) didn't start releasing 'til 3/3/72° (see single CHS 2001), a year after the release of this album. - prior to that, chrysalis' bands & solo artists were released on the island label with a chrysalis credit & small black butterfly logo, and then, once they'd chalked up the agreed (& contracted) target number of chart entries & sales, on an interim green chrysalis/island label, still part of the island catalogue while negotiations proceeded regarding arrangements for the independent label, including the rights to the back catalogue licenced to island. - airi, messers. ellis & wright received something of a shock along the lines of "all those rights were to remain with island, if they failed to make those target sales figures within the licence period, or went bust" - but, as chris blackwell explained, it had been quite something of a risk for him to bet on their succeeding, and that'd been a way of making it more of a sensible business deal for him; and if they had gone bust, they'd've lost the rights to somebody or other, anyway. - they'd had great fun crowing to him about each new chart entry, and their rapidly rising sales, along the lines of "only seven more hits to go, chris," and "only six more to go," then "only five more," etc. ('til he had to launch their separate label on the island catalogue by the terms of their agreement) - but, as he later said, whilst he won if they lost, he won even more if they succeeded; so he was very happy to see them do well. (and they stayed with island in the uk as an independent record company for at least another two further years - possibly quite a bit longer, some places, 'til they sold half the company to emi - so they didn't feel ripped off by him.) ° - 3/3/72 for merkins
