This release shows a Kinney distribution, so most likely issued actually in 1971, while this one shows a circa 1973 Emi distribution. So the labels shown here came for sure after, anyway the catalogue number remained the same, no need for different entries in my opinion
Yep, this pressing would be from 1976 or so, as that was when Elektra returned to WEA UK distribution after a few years with EMI (brought about because of Asylum's pre-existing deal with EMI, and David Geffen's elevation to chairman of Elektra/Asylum in 1973, and thus the desire to avoid perceptions of conflict of interest), though Discogs has a variant pressing which actually shows 1976 in the black rectangle on the bottom-right of the back cover. Discogs has another copy with the same catalogue number dated 1971, but only the front cover image is shown. Elektra's label was various shades of red while distributed by Polydor for a few years immediately before Kinney, and Polydor released this with the red label, but 45cat shows that the caterpillar label for singles came into use with the move to Kinney, so presumably the first Kinney-pressed albums had the butterfly label, without the (W) logo as that didn't come into use across the WEA group until 1975. Anyway, this K number is low enough to suggest that this was released fairly early in Kinney days, so 1971 should stay as the release year.
philmh: unless this title squeaked out just before elektra uk's distribution shifted to the kinney megamusiccorpse's complex, in which case an eks-prefixed cat# would've happened immediately before the k-system cat#... in fact, it should've seen one, as it should've seen a 1969 uk release... but yes, the k-number should've been applied to any remaining eks-numbered sleeves (& lps) when the kinneycomplexentity took over distribution in '71, and kinney been noted on label and sleeves printed thereafter (until -> wea).
Hi ppint, 1971 would be correct for the first issue of this catalogue number though, presumably it would have said Kinney Records Ltd in the bottom right-hand corner of the back cover.
date of this is wrong: it can't be from before 1972, as that's when elektra records was merged into asylum records; and it could be quite a bit later, as the w roundel of warners is on the label perimeters, which i think didn't start 'til 1975.
the original uk release would have the somewhat darker, browner?, elektra records label, and no overprinted black square on the rear bottom right sleeve corner saying elektra/asylum, etc.
