Magic Marmalade - You probably know this already, that Kinney Record Group acquired Reprise in 1970 and the whole then current catalog was reissued with new Cat numbers to match Kinney's marketing strategy across several different labels that were part of the Kinney Record Group.
Could the earlier issue be simply chopped for timing's sake in order to simply be able to fit all the tracks on side 1... or, could they actually be different versions of this track?
I must admit to never consciously having heard any Gordon Lightfoot before, although I've heard the name (Enough to prompt me, through curiosity, to buy this, and begin adventures in the work of Gordon Lightfoot), and have probably heard his music before I should imagine.
This last point I make because I would have no way of knowing if any difference existed between the two issues unless someone were to tell me what I was listening for.
Found a copy of this during the week, and sought info on it both here, and elsewhere on the web, as I couldn't understand why Reprise would release the exact same title twice within the space of a year (Both, as stated in notes, previously released under the title: Sit Down Young Stranger (Some very early copies without any title on the front cover)).
Mine is the issue also mentioned in notes, Cat No. : RSLP 6392.
(I'll add it tomorrow)
I examined my copy, and compared it to this, and coudn't notice any difference at first glance other than the Cat number, and a re-setting of the type on the label for: Your Love's Return (Song For Stephen Foster)...
...but then I compared the helpfully listed track timings on the labels, which also both compare exactly except for one difference:
Poor Little Alison on mine is timed at 2:30, but on this issue at 2:50.
So it would seem that RSLP 6392 was issued first in 1970, then this was issued with a full 20 seconds added to that last song on side 1, and the minor adjustment to the label text a year later.
