| | Ordway...forgive me for replying that way...but what is scary is there are alternate mixes on US pressings...My friend Steve has a folded down mono copy also...same stampers as my copy with the exception his disc does not have a -1 on side one... |

| | Why would I have lied?
To be fair, though, this is the first I have ever heard about a folded US mono issue. |

| | Okay folks.....found another mono copy (for a quarter!) at a local library book sale....looks like hell, but what the hell..... ordway1440 is speaking the truth!...this copy is mixed for mono!...(in fact the whole album is slightly sped up from the stereo)...Fakin' It (yes it's edited) and At The Zoo are the single mixes!!! The cross fade from "Child" to "America" is quicker...Punky's Dilemma has extra harmony voices not found on the stereo mix...(though "Hazy" seems like a fold down of the stereo mix an not the single mix...in fact this song is as not as loud as the others on the rest of this mono album)
here are the matrixes...
.Side One: (handwritten) XLP 118885 -2B and An upside down "C"...(with an "A" on the opposite side)
Side Two: (handwritten) XLP 118886 -2F and a backwards "C"..(with what looks like a backwards "S" with two backslashes "\\" on the opposite side |

| | My copy...(labels shown above)...
Side One: (handwritten) XLP 118885 -1C-1 and what looks like an eye symbol
Side Two: (handwritten) XLP 118886 -1C and what looks like an eye symbol
Played it again....side one crossfades are the same..."Fakin' It"..."At The Zoo"...and especially "Hazy Shade Of Winter" are the "Album" mixes........perhaps the only thing I can say is different between the mono and stereo is the EQ'ing (on the mono it seems to be EQ'd to the vocals...and not as bottom end-ish) John |

| | A Fold down? Not in the slightest.
BOOKENDS, at least the US mono, is a fully dedicated mono mix, and an amazing one at that.
Now if you were talking about THE GRADUATE OST, *that* is sadly a fold-down.
My above comments apply to the US pressings....Your country's mileage may vary! ;-) |

| | Which is odd, given how Columbia was fastidious about making separate mixes for mono and stereo per engineers' union rules. Unless the mono fold-down was UK? |

| | Added the hard to find US mono copy of Bookends.....Beware! all those looking for any unique mono mixes!...the mono edition is simply a fold-down of the stereo version...(and all those interesting single versions remain on their 45 counterparts!)....John |
