Thanks janie, my side 2 label has the bas-relief a little higher up, level with the two lines of "Original Sound Recordings Owned by Liberty Records". I can't believe I've never noticed it before (but then, I was never looking for anything like that). With regard to the logo, I'm inclined to think that it was a screw-up, by whoever did the layout, or by the printers. The cover has the correct Kent catalogue number, which suggests to me it was always meant to be on Kent.
If you look at the side 2 label on my sub, you notice a bas-relief type of raised bass-clef symbol (here it is overprinted by the "Is" of the album title), that is the isgnature of Sonopress, the pressing plant owned by the Mohn/Bertelsmann/Ariola empire.
Perhaps this was originally intended for Ace, but then the Kent label took off, and this stuff fitted better into their range?
My labels are the same as Janie's, and the vinyl has "Made In Germany" stamped into both sides of the deadwax. I can't see any reference to Sonopress or any other factory, though. My cover, however is different - even though it has the same catalogue number, it has the Ace logo on both the front and back, and might even be the first version of the cover, as I am fairly sure that I bought it soon after release (as sure as I can be about anything 31 years later!). I'll have to scan it in parts and then let Microsoft ICE do its thing! 1984 Music Master gives November 1983 for the release date
Added a full set of earlier release scans (no barcode, Kent listing on back, old style labels, and a tasty salmon coloured front, not as pink as the later one).
