CD in the Island Masters series is made in Australia, marketed in Australasia by PolyGram, and is mono (cat no 848 092-2). Appears to have been released in 1997 (about 4 years later than the UK), but though it makes its first appearance in the February 1998 Platterlog, it didn't get listed in any of the weekly release sheets for some reason. It seems to have been made from a Festival master, as the previous Festival reissue catalogue number D19069 is shown on the inner ring. An odd thing that I discovered when looking through the Platterlogs is that EMI Australia issued the 1987 EMI America CD compilation with the same title and similar tracklist; EMI America got it through having the catalogue of the United Artists label, on which the group previously appeared in the Americas, so it looks like EMI didn't realize that the recordings originated from Island and so belonged to Festival for Australia.
Thanks Lee, I must dig out the Aussie (I think?) PolyGram CD issue that I have somewhere, as I can't remember whether that's mono or stereo. In the meantime, I've just noticed that Island or Festival mucked up the writer name for "Keep On Running" - it should be J(ackie) Edwards, not Edmunds (though they got his name right on other tracks!).
Phil, 10 secs of "I'm A Man" is all it took to find out it is definitely a mono mix. Gimme Some Lovin' is the same there is very good sound between the two speakers. Whoever mastered it did a bang up job.
Hi Lee, Michael de Looper's Festival LP listing has this as being first released on the Festival label, SFL-932,736, most likely in 1967 as for the UK. The 1970 date on the sleeve comes from when the Island label was launched in Australia. Matrix numbers on the labels, and the UK catalogue number in brackets, suggest that this is mono - is it?
