Thanks Phil, I am aware of the ANV function although i didn't check it. Seems strange that I cannot find any where else that he is referred to as Dan - certainly not his birth name.
Hi Jasper, the asterisk next to the "Dan McLean" on the entry means that it is an ANV (Artist Name Variation) and is linked to the correct artist Don McLean; it's a feature that Discogs uses to cater for errors of that sort.
Well, that makes a change from "R & B singer", which is what Joel Whitburn's Top Pop Singles book calls her (and interestingly, "Never, Never, Never" was here only record to make the R & B chart, yet she's not called ""R & B singer" in that Whitburn book!). I think I'll change the genre in Discogs to "Pop".
Hi Phil, I also note that the genre in Discogs is "Jazz" - not that I like categorising into genres but I wouldn't describe Shirley Bassey as Jazz - more like "drama charged pop" if there was such a genre.
