Notes

Although Martin Denny was renowned for his exotica style of strumentale tunes, he was actually born in New York City and reared in Los Angeles where he studied classical piano under the guidance of Dr. Wesley La Violette and orchestration thru Arthur Lange at the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music.

After Don the Beachcomber had brought Mr. Denny to Honolulu for a two-week engagement, Mr. Denny had decided to settle in Hawaii where he established his own musical group which had consisted of Augie Colon (the percussionist and birdcaller), Arthur Lyman (the vibrant), and John Kramer (the string bassist).

When Mr. Denny had secured a contract with Liberty records, he recorded the tunes of the first Exotica disc of 33.33 rpm in 1956. At that time, no stereo recordings existed, so this disc was only monaurally available. More than two years later, Mr. Denny had re-recorded the songs of his first Exotica disc, and this disc was both monaurally and stereophonically issued. Both the times that the first Exotica disc of Martin Denny was recorded, Quiet Village was a minute longer than the popular rendition. In fact, this disc (Liberty LRP 3122) was the first disc of 33.33 rpm by which the popular edited re-recording of Quiet Village was issued.

Even though Quiet Village was the only big successful disc of 45 rpm of the Martin Denny combo, this combo had many prosperous discs of 33.33 rpm. Finally, the tune, My Little Grass Shack In Kealakekua, Hawaii Cha Cha Cha is indicated My Little Grass Shack Cha Cha Cha by means of the b-side disc label.
