The previous RCA cat# LSPX-1003 was Nilsson"s "The Point!" released in 1976. Both albums are re-issues so, you'd imagine that would also be a 1976 release too.
Hi Phil the cat# seems to be fairly global and the same across countries and time. I'm pretty sure the linked release with the same cat# from the US is an even later pressing than this one on the brown label but it still has the same cat# and date. The cat# and date is splattered over many releases around the world. By the feel of the vinyl though (I can tell) I sense your right but I think it will be difficult to be precise with this one. As for dual listing, I agree, we have asked for an Australasia category before haven't we? It would help for when the presses started to shut down on our side of the ditch in mid 80's. Anyway, I'll wait a while and see if anyone knows better than us.
Hi Lee, I think this probably is both an Australian and a New Zealand release, and I think it would be later than 1971, because it wasn't until 1975 that RCA Limited in Australia was registered in New Zealand as a foreign company, and that the "RCA Limited Australia and New Zealand" text started. Before that, 1971 RCA Victor releases in New Zealand were distributed by Radio Corporation of New Zealand Ltd., and appear to have switched to Pye Ltd. later that year or early in 1972. So, this is probably a 1975 or later pressing, but I don't know whether or not it was previously released under the same number by either of the other companies.
Could this also be classed as an Australian release, technically I think so as many New Zealand made records their way to our shores and into our stores. However, if I ever use this intended market criteria to classify such items as Australian releases I get a lot of feedback from my kiwi brothers and sisters insisting I reclassify the albums as New Zealand releases. I don't mind but it does kind of remind me of a barny I had with the Mods about the French Pistols releases being English rather than French. The Mods convinced me that they are English but that rule obviously doesn't apply to New Zealand for some reason. Anyway this album has one of the best gatefolds ever.
