Notes

RW June 7, 1969

Great compilation of Liberty, United Artists, Imperial and Soul City releases. Appearance of Brenton Wood and Count Five indicate licensing from Double Shot Records as well.

-- track A3 is re-processed
-- track A5 is phased stereo mix
all other tracks true stereo

and, of course, the reason the hollies weren't on the lp outside merkia is because they were never a liberty-signed group licenced to emi-parlophone, but a british group signed by george martin to emi's parlophone records, and their records licenced to liberty/ua/imperial for the usa only - are their canadadian capitol singles & lps at all common, south of the border?

- i think they may eventually actually have signed to cbs/epic, for the usa, canadada & maybe some other markets, once their emi/parlophone contract determined; here, they moved to polydor - and, eventually, back to emi records (though not back to the parlophone label, which was by then long since retired).

Of course, why a UA artist (Bobby Goldsboro) would be on a Liberty compilation LP in 1969 is no mystery - both labels by then were owned by Transamerica Corporation.

Added labels, which is all I have, it's one of those orphaned Lps I've retrieved without a cover....John

Looking again at my Australian version, I noted some substitutions. Here's the track list for the Australian version. Compare these to the list shown above.
Side A: 1]Bobby Goldsboro - Honey
2]Vicki Carr - It Must Be Him
3]Brenton Wood - Oogum Boogum Song
4]Gary Lewis & His Playboys - Sealed With A Kiss
5]Cher - You Better Sit Down, Kids
Side B: 1]Jackie DeShannon - The Weight
2]Johnny Rivers - Hey Joe
3]Bobby Vee - Medley: My Girl/Hey Girl
4]Classics IV - Spooky
5]Timi Yuro - What's The Matter, Baby.
As I said earlier, this is a 5-track-per-side album. Though it shares its title and some of the tracks with the US album, the cover art is different and this Australian version's issue year is 1973.

The Count Five appeared in the UK on PYE, the only 1 known UK release in 1960's. (booted in 1980's).

The LP turned up in Australia, licenced through Festival, on the Sunset label as L-15183, but with variations, The cover was different, there were only 5 cuts per side, thus The Hollies(licenced to EMI-Parlophone) and Count 5(which appeared here, I think, on the London label) were omitted from the Australian issue. I'll submit the cover and label when I have enough data in reserve.
