Notes Giles Perry Richardson aka the Big Bopper, was a trained musician who was also a part-time radio announcer at various stations in Texas and Chicago. Even though Mr. Richardson had recorded four tunes, Beggar To A King, Crazy Blues, The Monkey Song and A Teenage Moon, that were issued by means of Mercury records, his first big hit, Chantilly Lace b/w the Purple Eater Meets the Witch Doctor was issued by means of the "D" record label. Initially, the Purple Peter Eater was the a-side, but the majority of the music listeners had requested Chantilly Lace by such a large margin that this tune ultimately became nationally popular by means of the Mercury label. After Mr. Richardson had composed more tunes and his next disc of 45 rpm, Big Bopper's Wedding had gained popularity, he decided to have 12 songs compiled by means of his only disc of 33.33 rpm which became titled Chantilly Lace. Sadly, the Purple People Eater meets the Witch Doctor was NOT included by means of this LP disc and Mr. Richardson never had any occasion to see this disc issued do to the fact that he was killed in an airplane crash a few weeks earlier. Though this LP disc did not initially sell well, it was repressed many times throughout the next few decades thru which this disc not only had gained listening popularity, but was also sung by various artists, such as Cat Mother and the All Nite Newsboys, Shorty Long and Sha Na N . Lastly, this disc of 33.33 rpm was never stereofonically issued. Images
