| | ReviewIn the S.F. Bay Area, KYA AM 1260 debuted Crying on August 7, 1961 at #55 on their Swingin' 60. Candy Man was added the following week making the record a double-sided hit. Crying was the more played of the two. In mid-October the single peaked at #5. On November 13, Candy Man was swapped with Crying as the the more played side. The single remained on the chart until December 25 for a total of 20 weeks, quite unusual for a record in the early 60s.

| | Didn't Monument use black labels in the early 1960s, like Canada? This looks like a later reissue. |

| | ReviewA few words about the music. Only The Lonely his first big hit in 1960. Followup Blue Angel sold about one third the copies. Followup I'm Hurting sold one third of that. It was diminishing returns similar to his first three regional singles on Sun. Then Running Scared hit it out of the park, and they could say The Big O had "arrived".
Uptown came before Only The Lonely and had small chart success.
The fifth hit was Crying / Candy Man. I must say I never heard Crying locally, only Candy Man as the hit. A case of leaving to the market to decide which side was the hit. Next Dream Baby became a hit over the power ballad The Actress. The Crowd was another good ballad, which has been ignored since then amid all the hits.
I think Evergreen and Love Star were only released overseas.
This brings us to summer 1962.

| | Added a front and back cover variation fmc, label scans # 863703 and 863704 came in this jacket I've added. I not sure when this was issued, not sure if it's later or before cover images shown at top. This an updated comment from the previous one I had made earlier in the week. |

| | Discogs is wrong, for maybe the hundredth thousandth time. Billboard's mono LP chart listed this as 8000 starting from the issue dated 2 February 1963.
(8009 is Jerry Byrd's Byrd Of Paradise, released November 1963.) |
