This LP would've still been on the shelves, or in the K-Tel rack(if there was one) when Souled Out was issued. Speaking of Souled Out, some months back I bought a replacement copy after my original copy was accidentally broken. Gotta say, the back cover was poorly designed. Contents in red against a woodgrain background makes the print hard to make out(barely legible).
I bought this at Salamander Recycling Centre. The surface is somewhat noisy, some of the tracks may "jump", but it's a "collector's item" and has some tracks I may want to put on my computer at some time or other.
Yeah, R.C., That's what I was getting at with my question. As newer LPs are issued, K-Tel "updates" the photo promoting the Record Selector device with one of their more recent LPs taking the front spot in the selector.
Going by the label design, I figured this to be a 1973 issue. There are a number of Australian tracks on here but "Friday On My Mind"(Easybeats) does NOT number among them as it was recorded in England, produced by Shel Talmy. To count as an Australian record, you need three components: Artist/group(individual or group members born or naturalised Aussies), studio(TCS, Melbourne; Bill Armstrong Studios, Festival Studious at Ultimo, Sydney are three examples), Producer(Pat Aulton, Johnny Young, Howard Gable, etc.), not forgetting the recording engineer, but he/she is part of the studio component. As long as these components are all present, the record is dinky-di Aussie!(the composition to be recorded is a bonus if its Australian though it doesn't need to be).
