Notes

David Lewis was an African-American rock and roll/rhythm and blues keyboardist, organist and vocalist, who was born in Texas, but had relocated to Seattle sometime between 1942 and 1945. Interestingly, an unknown Quincy Jones, who took music lessons from the father of Mr. Lewis, was their neighbor.

While Mr. Lewis attended secondary school, he formed a band of which the members were George Griffin (the drummer), Barney Hilliard and J. B. Allen (the saxophonists) and Al Aquino (the guitarist). The popularity of this band had brought Mr. Lewis to local stardom to the level that his band had attracted large numbers of adolescent spectators while his band played at local night clubs and at house party gatherings. Consequently, the band of Mr. Lewis had become an opening act for various rhythm and blues group when this band played at the Palomar Theater. Furthermore, this band had decided to become the primary band at the Birdland Night Club where this group had popularized the Richard Berry composition of “Louie, Louie”.

In 1962, Mr. Lewis had formed a new trio band with two other members who were Joe Johansen (the guitarist) and Dick Enfield (the drummer) who had played all the tunes of this A & M disc of 33.33 rpm. Finally, this disc did not sell well, but two tunes, David’s Mood (Part Two) and Little Green Thing had become prosperous tunes in the greater Seattle region and other Pacific Northwest areas.
