Laminated Gatefold Sleeve.

What appears to be black vinyl is in fact a translucent red-current coloured vinyl when held up to the light.

 Just recorded this to CD.

When I came across it in a record bin, I didn't quite know what to make of it... had never heard of the group, let alone the album, and couldn't gauge from the cover exactly what it was (I suspect it has been passed by many a time for this reason, and may explain why they didn't come to attention of the masses).

But there are other reasons why this may be so, and actually the cover is a good place to start...

You'd think you're getting a 20s Art Deco jazz festival going by the sleeve, and there are, strangely enough, very strong flavours of that in the music, which may be what the designer latched onto when coming up with the cover design...

but this is essentially a hippie folk rock album (strange mix eh?), overlayed with the odd rock guitar solo, and with the strong aroma of a 60s musical sensibility like Jesus Christ Superstar or Hair (Not really my thing, and occasionally they do drift too far into overly earnest hippie-ness... one very bizarre moment is the La la la-s in the song Butterfly, which can only be properly described by conveying the notion to you of Minnie Ripperton and the Munchkins having had one too many space cakes one evening with their tea!

It has strong sounds of Crosby and Nash without Stills, The Mamas and the Papas, or a more twee pop sounding Fotheringay... Starland Vocal Band comes strongly to mind as well.

But it is charmingly sincere, and has strong melodic tunes, and is a nice bouncy fun folk rock hippie album.

I'm a Man is a strong, very memorable song, and Get on the road is a good sing-along song.

Good stuff.
