Notes

Successor LP to Hit Wave. Composer credit on Sadie was incorrect but written as shown, should've been Madara. Both Vibrants tracks are A- and B-sides of same single. The issue year is originally 1968 but I think this may be a late 1969 reissue as there are no ugly publishing company trademark stamps on the label, and a goof. This is a Mono LP but on Side A(only) the word Stereo appears, see my comments about this.

Added images from the initial pressings and re-arranged the images. Image 2588187 shows the original back cover with the 'Encore Series' logo. Images 2588189 and 2588190 have the publisher logos and are of the initial pressing.

The HMV, Columbia, Parlophone and Stateside labels with the thin horizontal lines coming out either side of the box which carried the trademark did start appearing around 1970, they were an immediate successor to the variant designs for the labels pre-1970 and, I believe, was EMI's method to "unify" the four labels in one group design to compliment the singles/EPs with the large 45rpm device. The only label which wasn't unified into this group was Tamla/Motown which had the trademark without the lines out from either side of the trademark.

I just solve the mystery when the Beatles Australian issues of the Parlophone Orange label made its debut from 1970 right up to 1982 ahh RC you are so clever

I wouldn't know the answer to that question, RC. The first copy I had was a Xmas present in 1968(many months after its initial issue) but the second copy came from Rices Book & Record Shop in Newcastle West. And the album wasn't even in stereo!

Upon finding that last elusive track(Simon Says[The Groove]), I have now burned both LPs together to one CD as the total playing time of each album(Hit Wave and Another Hit Wave) both came in at under 40 minutes! Not so squeazy! I put the albums on separate discs as well. I'll keep the separate disc versions but I'll pass the combined version to a good friend of mine when I see him tomorrow.

At last I've found "Simon Says" by The Groove. It was on my CD "40 Giants Of The Jukebox" at Tr.7, Disc 1. Here was I looking for the 45 of it at Rices and it was "under my nose" all this time. I quote Homer Simpson here.... "Doh...!"

When I get these last tracks done(one from Another Hit Wave and two from Hit Wave) they'll all be together to burn a CD replica of these albums. Only difference will be, I have reworked the tracks using my Sound Forge software to give them a simulated stereo effect - not true stereo, just simulated, after all, they're mono recordings originally!

Like with Hit Wave, I'm also recoding the contents of this album to MP3 files for burning to CD later. Only thing is, like that Twilights track on Hit Wave, the Side B/Tr.1 Simon Says(The Groove) also jumps, making it unusable for this purpose. Looks like I'm going to have to buy the single I saw of the track on my next visit to Rices in Newcastle. All the other tracks are done, it's just this one holding me up for this album.

The flaps where the two sides were glued together, turned inward made for a much neater appearance. But they were using a far better glue back then, the sleeves haven't come apart, unlike some latter LP covers.

All bar track 7 on Side A, plus tracks 2, 3, 4 and 5 on Side B I've converted to MP3 and stored in a folder on an external hard-drive - All Oldies(60s) sub-file 1967. I've got to get cracking and convert the remaining tracks of this and several more of "Hit Wave" to make a CD of them.

Also you can tell by the cover joins top and bottom that were on the outside now on the inside

Actually, no, R.C. Thanks to the link you provided, I saw that Hit Wave Three's label had the same design, only in a deep navy blue colour. It would be the early 1970s when we first saw the label design with the lines out from the trade mark(in whatever colour).

Yes, they switched from HMV to Columbia for this and Hit Wave Vol.3. Volume 3's label was a deep navy blue colour and the back cover showed Hit Wave and Another Hit Wave, both still in the catalogues at the time. A glance at the track list for Vol.3 suggest it was issued later in 1968, and the front cover showed a surfer. Thanks for the link, R.C. Now all that needs doing is to get that volume onto 45worlds and we'll have the complete set! In the meantime, I may have to chase 45s of some of these tracks if I'm going to commit this album to CD, likewise with Hit Wave.

Someone at EMI goofed here! This is a mono LP but the word Stereo inadvertently appeared on the A-side label only. I made a correction only to show how it should've looked. The LP was first issued in 1968 and that issue had those oh-so-grotesque publishing company "stamps" printed on the labels. The label design here is the same as the initial issue, but because of the absence of those publishing company "stamps", I think this may be a late-1969 reprint of the album. Though I'll stick with 1968 as its issue date.
