ppint. 17th Sep 2017		recorded in 1984 for columbia, but rejected by them; called in to a meeting with walter yetnikoff, then the head of merkin columbia, cohen reported being told "we know you're great and all that - but we don't know if you're any good." it wasn't until john cale became interested in the song, and took on sorting out the thousands of words cohen had written for it over the years, that "hallelujah" started to become the classic it's now recognised to be.
