Blame my keyboard it relies on the dictionary what I type in that's the way it comes out

From RC: "....a rubber band that came with a separate amp" What...? To amplify the rubber band? Twang you very much!(ha-ha)! Sorry, RC! Just the way it was worded, it was rife for a joke remark!

Yes Neil my uncle bought a state of the art (1975) AR brand stereo system the speed control was very unusual on the turntable as you used to change it by a rubber band that came with a separate amp

Is that a speaker in each corner of the room, perhaps?

Ahh issued in phase 4 my explanation of that technique has already been explained back then when you had two speakers each side of the room

Phase 4 Stereo was a branch of Decca and its American label London Records created in 1961. Phase 4 Stereo supposedly created better sound by being recorded on a 10-channel, and later 20-channel, recording console. Approximately two hundred albums were released under the label, including popular music, "gimmick" records engineered to make the sound travel from speaker to speaker, records featuring percussion effects, and historical sound effect records. In 1964, a light classical Phase 4 "Concert series" was produced.

The concept of Phase 4 Stereo has nothing to do with four channel stereo. But because there often are sounds out of phase the records give good results when played on Hafler circuits or other simulated four channel systems.
